Welcome to the 2026 Season at Breakwater Lodge
Why Breakwater Lodge?
Breakwater Lodge is situated on the remote and tranquil Sonora Island, a place where solitude meets energy and adventure meets renewal.
Here, our family has curated an experience that can be tailored to the rhythm and intention of your stay.
We are pleased to welcome you and to share a true escape, the kind of immersive getaway where everyday life begins to fade into the background.
Our 2026 season is underway. Each year, each season and even each day brings something new. It is the blend of our rugged coastline in the Northern Salish Sea, our family-owned fishing lodge experience and the new offerings we are excited to share this year.
The Eagles Have Returned
To define Breakwater Lodge is in the eye of the wayfarer. For photographers, it often means being ready at a moment’s notice.
On a photography tour we are at times greeted with sea lions barking along the shore. Eagles passing overhead, diving and perching in the wind. Black bears working the shoreline at low tide and on rare occasions a grizzly moving through the distance.
Spending time here does tend to leave its mark, sometimes quite literally, with a camera worn in close pursuit of the next moment.
The marine life passing through Innes Passage can arrive without warning. Pods of Pacific white-sided dolphins are a welcome sight, and even the most experienced eye remains attentive and patient.
Eagles gather here each spring, and in May we begin our eagle tours. During the seasonal food peak in the Discovery Islands, bald eagles, along with gulls, are drawn to the abundance of hake and the productivity of these narrow tidal channels.
Join one of our eagle tours to witness dozens, and at times hundreds, of eagles gathered within a single stretch of water. They dive, perch, and move through the landscape as they feed themselves and their young during nesting season. A striking expression of the coastal food chain in motion.
More Space, Same Incredible Views
We’ve added four new upper lodge guest rooms, bringing Breakwater to a total of six luxury guest spaces.
Here, connection matters. Groups can gather in one of two living rooms for an evening catch-up, unwind in the private hot tub, or return to a waterfront room as the day settles along the shore.
While capacity has increased, the lodge remains intentionally intimate. The experience is designed to feel personal, even as more guests are welcomed into the space.
Whether you are joining us for a special occasion, a corporate retreat, a family gathering or a fishing trip in pursuit of lingcod or seasonal salmon, the coast sets the stage for your time here.
A Family-Owned Lodge Built to Be Shared
With deep roots on the West Coast, my husband Wes and I brought our vision of a remote coastal lodge to life. Now a family of five, we remain closely involved in the day-to-day operation and have spent more than a decade living and working on Sonora Island.
Our mascot, Walter the dog, can often be found around the property — serving as a friendly face and a part of the welcoming committee.
Having our family on site is such a joy and with it we want to share our local knowledge and care with a goal to offer our guests a more personal connection to place.
Breakwater Lodge isn’t just where we work. It’s where we spend our summers, raise our family, and share a place we genuinely love with our guests.
Looking Ahead to the Rest of 2026
Our boats are prepped and ready for the season, and guides Eric and Dawson are on hand to help you make the most of your time on the water.
Time here matters — on the water and along the shore — and we aim to make it count. We’re grateful to everyone who has made the journey to stay with us, and to those planning their first visit to Sonora Island.
